Busy Week Ahead

Wow! I can’t believe it’s that time of year again. Fall Festivals, Holiday Open Houses and Events centered around the upcoming Holidays. The next two months will be hectic to say the least. Everyday that I am not at a function, I will be preparing for one. It’s a fun time too, because there are many of you that I only see this time of year and I always love meeting new customers and friends too.

As promised, if you look at the “tabs” at the top of the page, you will see a new tab for “Events”. I’ve only gotten October Events up so far, so you need to check back often to see where we will be.  I will try, this week to get November up, so you can plan ahead if you want to attend any of the Events scheduled for November.

I can wait to get out and see everyone!

Ahhh! The Weekend

Next week I will be participating in a 2 day Open House and a Harvest Festival. This time of year I like to have items other than our goats milk soaps, lotions and socks. So any yarn that hasn’t sold during the year I use to make items to sell at events like these coming up. This year I have very little yarn left over..so, it’s going to be a hats season. This box of yarn is representative of what will become those hats.

Several of the skeins left over are handspun and include a little mohair and silk in the blending. The others are mill spun skeins left over from the CSA shares from last year and are all wool. All of the yarn is handpainted by me and I think the colors have turned out pretty nice this year.

Remember, today is Fiber Arts Friday, so click this link and join in:

As you can see I have added an Events tab to my Blog. Over the weekend I will be adding events, so check back often to find out where we will be and when.

Rest In Peace “Baxter”

If you look on my sidebar you will see a feed for “Baxter” the therapy dog..some of you have clicked to follow his Blog and I am so glad that you have. I am so sorry to share that “Baxter’s” last picture was October 15th. I will keep this feed on my Blog until his owner takes it down so any new comers will have the chance to see this incredible little dog.

My heart is so saddened by the loss of such a great testament to the dedication and devotion of a dog and for the owner who recognized the need for the services he could provide. “Baxter” you will be missed.

My Favorite Time of Year

12797_Autumnview

This photo was taken at a friends farm in the Shenandoah Valley last year. I use it throughout the year as a screen saver..when it doesn’t look like this here. In a couple more weeks, I’ll have more photos of Fall to remind me of my favorite time of year. There is something so incredibly wonderful and exhilarating about Autumn. I remember as a child, sitting in the swing, on late afternoons during Fall days, marveling at the difference in lighting. It in itself was a paint scheme for the artist’s palette, then add the magnificent colors of the trees  and summer grasses and oh my, it made it even more breathtaking. The Indian Summer or the cool Fall crispness to the air all make this a beautiful and memorable time for me as I’m sure it does for many others. As I sit here and type, I can almost smell the wood and leaf burning wafting through the air and the taste of fresh apple cider with a short shot of bourbon teasing my tongue. Of course, as a child it was virgin apple cider! Ah, what a wonderful time!

With Autumn, at Breeze Hill Farm, comes the season for breeding and fiber growth. The goats are busy working on the babies that will come in Spring. The sheep and goats both are starting their heavy fiber growing season in anticipation of Winter. We are cleaning stalls, getting the pastures broken up and fertilized and cleaning up downed wood, acorns and leaves. There is always a lot to do…always and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Well, I’m making soap and lotion like crazy this week in anticipation of great sales this upcoming holiday season. I can’t wait to get back out to the markets and open houses. To see those friends that we only see once a year and to make new friends. I spend my days doing this and my nights knitting so there will be a good stock from both sides of the farm.
