St. Stephen’s Farmer’s Market

Yesterday was the first St. Stephen’s Farmer’s Market in Richmond, VA. We are so glad that we chose this as our new market for 2009. What a fantastic market. So well thought out, such wonderful people incharge and the attendees..Wow! We are use to the coordinators thanking us for attending but never have we had the attendee’s thank us. Everyone was so excited and it showed in every part of the day. Sales were great and the contacts that we made will prove to be very beneficial too. Soap was the big seller for the day but there was a lot of fiber interest too. I took the spinning wheel this time. Usually I don’t take it because it tends to become more of a sideshow but I think it was a plus for yesterday. Not to mention, I’m getting work done while I’m working! Several people signed on to take spinning classes. Met a new family that has started a fiber farm and she really wants to learn how to spin.

The day could not have been as successful as it was had it not been for my husband. He is such a good salesman that I just let him go. I may have mentioned this before but we have one item that we sell that he isn’t allowed to sell. Our Collina Breeza Nourishing Cream is excellent for more mature skin types and it is a face and all over cream. Well, we learned when we first introduced it that it isn’t a good idea for a man to tell a woman that see needs this cream!! Everything else, he is top salesman for.

I’ve added a couple of photos of our booth. I cannot believe how fat I am and the grey hair, yuck. I need to go to a different kind of farm!

Happy Customers!

Take Time To Be Happy!

I’m sure alot of people have received this email (there are about 10 more photo’s than what I am sharing) from friends but I loved it so much it just had to share a couple of parts of it.

For all of us who are starting to see too many wrinkles.

For all of us who are starting to see too many wrinkles.

My new mantra!

My new mantra!

and finally!
Sometime we need to stop and remember to not take ourselves too seriously!

Sometime we need to stop and remember to not take ourselves too seriously!

To my friend Cat, thank you for being my friend for 49 years and for sharing this with me.

Too often the day to day grind causes us to forget laughter or even who we really are. With so many serious happenings in our lives, we have to take time out to appreciate the light heartedness that keeps us sane.

If anyone is interested, you can email me and I will forward the entire “forward” to you. I’m off to print out a couple of other’s to put on the fridge.

Asleep At The Wheel

I have spent the better part of my day trying to fix a problem. It is amazing how one mistake can become so much of an issue but I believe it’s fixed. Wasting time is so very costly right now because there is so much going on. Exhaustion can cause you to do things that you otherwise wouldn’t do on your worst day. Enough about this.

I have been up to my ears in soap today too. The increase in milk production keeps me either making soap or lotion everyday. Having a heavy inventory is a good thing this time of year. It is normal for us to sell out of most of our soaps at each Farmer’s Market we participate in.  We now have customers calling and pre-ordering before market day because they don’t want to be disappointed by not being able to get what they came for. I’m glad that we have such wonderful customers and honestly, the advanced ordering is really a good thing because we know in how much more to make and bring. This season we have added some new and wonderful fragrances to our line too. “Tomato Leaf” has had everyone talking about that first tomato of the season and the “Cucumber Mint” is simply fantastic.

So now it’s time to hit the sack. Milking at 5:00 a.m. comes too soon when you’re still up after midnight. I’m feeling like I’m asleep at the wheel!

Pictures From Our First Market This Season

Set Up

Set Up

It was a beautiful and very hot day but all of the anticipation made it worth it. The first market of the season is always so exciting! Familiar faces, new faces, people looking for old time favorites positive comments and great suggestions. This was our first “in person” offering of our new Spring 2009 Fiber CSA. People seemed interested but I’m afraid the heat may have played a big role in the lack of ” lovin’ the wool”. Here are some photos from the beginning of the day.

As I have said before, in an earlier Blog, at a different address, this is something that could have not happened if folks like Martha’s Vineyard Fiber farm and Jacob’s Reward Farm had not validated a concept that I had stored away for years. Thank you guys!

As time goes by, we will have more and more photos and information to share.  It shouldn’t be much longer before the “new” website is up and running too. This is not always an easy task because 2 of us are working on this..at different times and it can get a bit confusing but the fact that we are on the same page (ha) helps the process.

We really hope that you will support the concept of the Fiber CSA and join us for the Spring 2009 Harvest!
