Just Snow Photos

A different perspective on the farm

Breeze & Gabe want to know when the FB is coming out!

Back to the barn

Is there hay in here?

The weather guys promised a big storm and for us this was a big storm. 15″ with drifting and more on the way tomorrow. Unfortunately, the “winter weather” tomorrow is suppose to be sleet and freezing rain. Got the generator gassed up for this past weekend, so we’re ready.  Then there is the “Nor-easter” that is being promised for Friday and Saturday. I do hope that before the weekend we will be able to get to the feed store (human and livestock).  One thing we know for sure before next winter, there are many things we need to do here to upgrade for inclement weather.

It is beautiful though, isn’t it?

Have a great day..either with the snow or what ever your current weather!

Rooster Antics

You all remember Beau-cocks the stray rooster? Well let me share some of his award winning antics with you this morning. He has developed quite a little personality since he moved on to the farm.

We still haven’t gotten him any girls yet, so he still thinks that he is a sheep unless a human is around..more specifically my husband. These two “men” have developed a very strong and steadfast relationship with each other. Apparently when hubby goes to the barn Beau helps him with all of the barn chores including running interference when the border collies are given a command..he thinks because noise came out of hubby that means he has to do what he says too. As hubby said, “I’m really worried that one of the border collies might eventually notice him and that could end badly”. All I see from the kitchen window is this little “rooster man” following hubby everywhere he goes and when hubby thinks no one is looking or listening, he has little talks with Beau. They make quite a team!

He has now taken to “dog aggravation” every morning along with standing under each window of the house when he sees hubby moving around and crowing. With the “dog aggravation” he simply stands in front of the pens, flaps his wings, crows and flies up on top of the runs, tapping and pecking and then flies down and does it all over again. The dogs run in circles, bark and run in their houses and peek out. Guess you have to be there.

Yesterday, I tossed a buck of water out the kitchen window (that’s another story for another day) and before I could get the screen down, Beau was standing in the window. Needless to say, my spoiled rotten cats freaked and took off running. Poor things don’t know what dinner looks like on the claw!

As soon as the weather becomes more predictable we are going to build a small coop and get 10 or so hens. That should finally give this little guy his own place in the barnyard. Until then I will continue to enjoy hubby and Beau making the trek to the barn together each morning. I have to say, there is nothing as cute as a running chicken from behind!

Sunday Evening Ramblings

As I sit here this Sunday evening, just two days past Christmas, I am thinking about all of the new and wonderful friends we have made this year. I am so thankful for the support and understanding that I have received through this Holiday Season from everyone. For me, it is not easy to “go public” with things that are happening in my life, because I am by nature a very private person. As I have been told though, all things are relevant to the Farm and our lives here at the farm. The changes in the seasons, aging parents, new births and good byes to old friends, watching the once black muzzle, of our border collie “Gabe”, take on hints of white, looking in the mirror and seeing my own hints of silver (got to do something about that before 2010!!!), feeling that great sense of  being satisfied and content and so much more..all things really are relevant to our farm life.

To all my family, friends, acquaintances and customers thank you for all being a part of Breeze Hill Farm! We couldn’t do it without you and honestly, wouldn’t even want to try.

I hope everyone had a great Holiday and are looking forward to 2010!

By the way, we have a new Domain Name for our Blog..still can’t believe it was available. When you go straight to us now you can type  http://BreezeHillFarm.net..is that cool or what??? Now we’ve really got to get to work on our farm website, it’s a mess.

Have a good night..go Redskins..later.

A Beautiful Snow!

It fell in silence all night Friday and all day Saturday, blanketing the earth with 19 inches of it’s pure white grace. No sounds of cars or trains or even people. There were no prints, not even that of a bird. What an amazing feeling of solitude. The fire in the woodstove crackled sending its warmth into the house. We didn’t even talk as we watched this beautiful scene build through our picture window. I thought fondly of how many snows I had seen in my lifetime and how many of those were this close to Christmas. I thought of Christmas and wondered what we might do that day since Mom is back in the hospital. I thought of my Mom and wished that this draping of perfect beauty could somehow influence her healing process. I thought about my husband who has been my rock through all of the craziness of the last two months and wondered how all of this has made him feel. We gals don’t ask our hubby’s often enough how they are handling things, you know. Then with all of these thoughts and wonders, it hits me…..

Are You People Ever Going To Feed Us???

…the wonderful reality of owning a farm!!
